Parent & Family Support

Parenting can become incredibly difficult when your child is struggling emotionally or behaviourally. You may find yourself unsure how to respond, questioning whether you're doing the right thing, or feeling that the approaches you've tried simply aren't helping.

Parent and family support provides a space to understand what's happening beneath your child's difficulties and explore practical, compassionate ways of supporting them at home.

Supporting Families with PDA

Parenting a child with a PDA profile can require a very different approach. Everyday requests and expectations can lead to anxiety, resistance or distress, while traditional parenting strategies may sometimes make things harder. Support focuses on understanding demand avoidance, reducing unnecessary conflict and finding collaborative approaches that respect your child's need for autonomy. We can look at how demands are communicated and identify situations where pressure can be reduced without abandoning important boundaries. Parents can develop more flexible ways of approaching routines, transitions and everyday expectations. The aim is to reduce repeated battles while helping your child feel understood, secure and better able to cope with demands.

Supporting Families with ADHD

ADHD can affect much more than attention. Emotional regulation, impulsivity, routines, transitions, frustration and family relationships can all be affected. Support can help parents better understand their child's ADHD and find approaches that reduce conflict and work more effectively for their individual child. We can explore common pressure points at home and identify what may be triggering overwhelm or difficult behaviour. Parents can develop practical ways to support regulation, communication and everyday routines. Where your child is also having individual counselling, parent sessions can help reinforce their progress at home.

Is Parent & Family Support Right for You?

Behavioural & Emotional Challenges

Meltdowns, anger, defiance and intense emotional reactions can leave the whole family feeling exhausted. Rather than focusing solely on stopping the behaviour, we look at what may be happening underneath it and explore practical ways to reduce escalation, strengthen communication and support emotional regulation. Together, we can identify patterns, triggers and situations that regularly lead to conflict or overwhelm. Parents can develop clearer, calmer ways of responding while maintaining appropriate boundaries. When parents and children are supported together, changes made in therapy can become part of everyday family life rather than disappearing when the session ends.

Supporting Families with Anxiety

When a child is anxious, it can be difficult to know when to reassure, encourage, step in or step back. We can explore what's driving your child's anxiety and how you can support them to manage worries, build confidence and gradually become more independent. Parents can learn how anxiety affects thoughts, emotions and behaviour, including avoidance and reassurance-seeking. Together, we can look at responses that help your child feel supported without allowing anxiety to take over family life. The aim is to help your child feel increasingly able to cope with difficult situations and trust their own abilities.

What to Expect in Our Sessions

We focus on creating a gentle, creative environment where young minds feel safe to share. Sessions typically involve a blend of talk, play, and artistic expression tailored to your child's age and comfort level. Our goal is to foster a safe space for growth and emotional discovery, ensuring that every therapeutic journey is as unique as the child themselves.
